Volunteer Program Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in the PTA Volunteer Program. This program is designed to offer valuable assistance to the students.  By volunteering at one of the PTA functions, you provide a major contribution to the success of your child's school.  You may be working directly with children in such ways as reading with them, helping to strengthen math skills, working on the computer, helping with spelling words and grammar rules, or you may be asked to help prepare instructional materials. This partnership in education provides a sense of unity between parents and teachers. This unity helps to provide an overall sense of warmth and pride in our school.

Program Organization:
Each school volunteer will be asked to complete the attached information sheet.  Along with contact information and availability, we are requesting that you indicate special talents or areas of strength.  We plan to utilize your talents to benefit the students!  Approximately 2 weeks before the program begins, a calendar will be prepared.  The calendar will be distributed to all volunteers, teachers and staff.  The calendar lets everyone know who is supposed to be where and when, but it is also another means of knowing who besides teachers and staff is supposed to be in the school building at any given time. This program is designed so that people can volunteer on a regular basis.  Volunteers may be asked to work with the same teacher, or share talents across grade levels.  Some volunteers may simply be assigned one time per month wherever they are needed (cafeteria, clerical duties, creating displays.).  The coordinators of the School Volunteer Program will try to schedule the people who are available once a week with the same teacher.  For those of you who do not have such flexible schedules, we will schedule you around the regulars as you are available.  Remember:  We believe all hours contributed are equally important to the students and teachers.

School Volunteer Guidelines:

  1. Please respect the privacy of the students.  Do not discuss the students!!
  2. All volunteers must sign in at the office.
  3. You are in the classroom or instructional area to help the teacher and the students they identify.  Please avoid unnecessary and disruptive contact with the students.
  4. The teacher will let you know what type of help is needed and what is expected of you.
  5. Please direct any concerns you have with the assigned tasks or with the students to the teacher.
  6. If you cannot make it on your scheduled day, please call from the list of volunteers to schedule a substitute.  If one is not available, please let the teacher know via e-mail or phone call to the school. (410-638-3900)
  7. The time you give is greatly appreciated.  Please honor the start and end times you will be scheduled.
